EMI is a new Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers dedicated to serving the engineering community through the development and application of engineering mechanics. EMI has fourteen technical committees addressing a variety of advanced engineering mechanics topics. EMI is responsible for the highly regarded Journal of Engineering Mechanics, and is currently planning its Inaugural International Conference, EM’08, to be held on May 18-21, 2008 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. EMI administers an awards program that includes seven prestigious medals recognizing outstanding contributions and achievements. ASCE members may select EMI as their Institute. It is also possible to join EMI as an EMI-only member.
